When the Unexpected Happened to Us

25 March 2026

It was the kind of phone call that makes an office fall silent.

If you know someone with horses, you know they are no stranger to bumps and bruises.

As many of our clients know, Jenny loves her horses, but this was the biggest challenge she has ever faced.

Last September, Jenny suffered a serious fall. She was airlifted to hospital and over the coming days one question cut through everything: what would this mean for her life, her family and the business?

At Manders Financial Services, we speak to clients every day about putting the right cover and financial back-up in place before it is ever needed. It’s easy to believe life will carry on steadily. But illness or injury can change everything in an instant, affecting not just one person, but everyone around them. We saw this so clearly with Jenny’s accident.

Life doesn’t stop when the unexpected happens,” Jenny says. “You still have bills to pay. Direct debits don’t pause just because you can’t work. The last thing you want to think about is money when you’re lying in a hospital bed.

As an adviser, Jenny’s own financial safety net was about to be tested.

One of the smartest decisions I made was building a resilient package of cover around my own lifestyle. For me, that meant income cover, critical illness cover and private medical insurance. It gave me the financial resilience I needed, and, more importantly, the space to focus on recovery.

Jenny’s protection plans had been quietly running in the background for years. When the ‘what if?’ became real, they worked exactly as intended.

I have never been more relieved to have listened to my own advice all those years ago.

This experience reinforced something we firmly believe. Planning for the unexpected is not about fear. It is about preparation and peace of mind. It gives you stability when life feels anything but stable.

Thankfully, we are a full team once again and we couldn’t be more grateful.

If like us, Jenny’s story made you stop and think more about your own medical and financial plans, please do get in contact.
